Sounds good on paper *can* sound okay in recordings, but only with a lot of post-processing work. SUMMARY: Could and should sound a lot better than it does. PROS: Versatile sound controls in the Ivory II version (quite a number of different controls for things like decay and shimmer), reasonably even sampling, a warm Steinway D piano sound, bundled with a light version of Cantabile (a nice easy solution for midi and audio recording of other VSTs as well as the ACD).ĬONS: A not terribly good acoustic instrument (I've heard Steinway Ds sound a lot better), only one mic perspective (mid-distance ambient), limited sound shaping in spite of the numerous controls, (Note that Synthogy also have a German Steinway, and it's not clear which the thread title refers to, but the ACD is the more popular of the two anyway (though not necessarily better). I've written more about them elsewhere on here, but in brief, in reverse order:-ģ. Three contenders that I'm lacking are the Galaxy Vintage D, the Grandeur, and the Production Grand, so I'm certainly not in a position to give an exhaustive opinion, but I do have the three listed in the title.
